Helping ambition meet opportunity

About

We’re NSEMM

NSEMM began in 2020, founded by determined students who believed that education should be within everyone’s reach. Since then, it has blossomed into a vibrant, student-led charity empowering hundreds of young people nationwide.

Our mission

Education changes lives.

That’s why we’re putting tutoring in communities. A young person’s access to quality education should never depend on their family’s income.

The National Society for Education, Mentoring and Media began when two sixth-form students in Kent noticed their peers struggling to afford the extra support they needed to succeed. What started as volunteer tutoring sessions and a resource hub has grown into a comprehensive support network spanning tutoring, mentoring, skills development, and community partnerships.

Today, we work across the UK, partnering with schools in multiple counties, libraries, and community organisations to ensure that every young person has access to the educational support they deserve, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Why We Matter

We’ve proven affordable education works

We’ve delivered 3,812 hours at an average family contribution of £10.54 – much cheaper than other tutoring companies. Subsidised lessons via our Community Education Fund, where families contribute what they can afford, have saved families over £22,000 since 2020, proving great education doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

Students teaching students gets results

Our tutors are university students who recently sat the same exams. They understand the stress and challenges because they’ve been there too. With only 30% of students nationally getting private tutoring, we make that help more attainable.

We work with, not instead of, communities

Instead of competing with libraries and schools in our own centres, we team up with them. We run sessions in places students already trust, like local libraries, making our programmes feel like a natural part of the neighbourhood.

We’re built to last and we use donations wisely

89p of every pound goes straight to helping students learn. Our funding comes from individuals, companies, and grants, proving our model works long-term while keeping our promise that money never stops someone getting help.
