If your camera or microphone isn’t working during an online lesson, don’t worry. Most issues are easy to fix with a few simple steps.
Check Browser Permissions
The most common cause of camera and microphone issues is browser permissions. When you first join a lesson, your browser asks for permission to access these devices. If you clicked “Block” by mistake, or if the permission was never granted, your tutor won’t be able to see or hear you.
To fix this in Chrome, click the padlock or camera icon in the address bar (to the left of the web address). Make sure both Camera and Microphone are set to “Allow”, then refresh the page.
Close Other Applications
If another application is using your camera or microphone, Lessonspace won’t be able to access them. Close any video calling apps like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or FaceTime, and any other browser tabs that might be using your camera. Then try joining your lesson again.
Check Your System Settings
Your computer’s privacy settings might be blocking camera or microphone access. On Windows, go to Settings, then Privacy, and check that camera and microphone access is enabled for your browser. On Mac, go to System Preferences, then Security & Privacy, then Privacy, and make sure your browser is listed and ticked under both Camera and Microphone.
Try a Different Browser
If you’re still having trouble, try using a different browser. We recommend Google Chrome for the best experience with Lessonspace. Make sure your browser is up to date, as older versions may have compatibility issues.
Test Before Your Lesson
It’s a good idea to test your camera and microphone before your lesson starts. Most computers have a built-in camera app you can use to check your video, and you can test your microphone in your system sound settings.
